The Bird-Named Cabins of Cahal Pech

The Birds of Cahal Pech Cabins: Why Each Cabin Has a Name

At Cahal Pech Cabins, each cabin is more than just a place to sleep — it carries the name of a bird you can actually find in Belize. This choice reflects our riverside setting at Carmelita along the Belize River, where mornings often begin with bird calls and flashes of color across the meadows.

Every cabin includes a queen-size bed, private shower, ceiling fan, TV, and a screened veranda where you can sit and enjoy the sounds of nature. Guests also receive free horseback riding and free canoeing on the Belize River during their stay.

Our rates begin at $69 USD per night (off-season) and $99 USD per night (tourism season), with all taxes and service charges clearly listed at booking.

Here’s what each cabin name means, and where you might spot these birds during your stay.

Cabin 1 – Aracari

The Collared Aracari is a small toucan, playful and social. You might see them in groups hopping between fruit trees, their bright bills catching the morning sun. The Aracari Cabin represents curiosity and togetherness.

Cabin 2 – Toucan

Belize’s national bird, the Keel-billed Toucan, is famous for its rainbow-colored beak. They are often heard before they’re seen, croaking in the treetops near the Belize River. The Toucan Cabin carries the vibrance and joy of Belize itself.

Cabin 3 – Scarlet Macaw

One of the most striking birds in Central America, the Scarlet Macaw is rare but unforgettable. While harder to spot near the cabins, they are symbolic of the wild jungles of southern Belize. The Scarlet Macaw Cabin represents beauty, rarity, and freedom.

Cabin 4 – Kiskadee

The Great Kiskadee is loud, bold, and impossible to ignore. Known for its “kis-ka-dee!” call, it’s one of the birds you’re most likely to see around the cabins, often perched near water. The Kiskadee Cabin reflects cheer and energy.

Cabin 5 – Hummingbird

Tiny but full of spirit, hummingbirds dart quickly from flower to flower. In Belize, they are common in gardens and forest edges, and you may catch them shimmering in the sunlight near the cabins. The Hummingbird Cabin represents agility, lightness, and joy.

Cabin 6 – Egret

The Great Egret is elegant and calm, often found wading along riversides. Around the Belize River, their white feathers stand out against the green banks. The Egret Cabin reflects grace, peace, and a closeness to water.

Why Bird Names Matter Here

Belize is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 600 species recorded. By naming each cabin after birds, we connect your stay to the natural life around you. Whether it’s the bold call of a kiskadee at dawn or the quiet poise of an egret by the river, every bird adds its voice to the experience of Carmelita.

At Cahal Pech Cabins, you’re not just staying in a cabin — you’re staying in the rhythm of Belize’s birdlife, with the comfort of modern amenities and the security of a fully licensed accommodation.
